§Grand Pré first settled in 1680; two of the founders were Pierre Theriault and Pierre Melanson, "proceeding independently of each other ..." Also there came with the Theriaults and Melansons, the Landrys (Theriault's wife was Celine Landry). Soon the inner southern banks of the Minas Basin, up its creeks, away from easy access by English vessels, were to be found the families headed by Jean Theriault, Martin Aucoin, Philippe Pinet, and Francois Lapierre (these last two having come directly from France).
§English take possession of Port Royal without resistance, abandoned and reoccupied peaceably by the French.
