SCOTT & The South-Pole

Wilfred Montagu Bruce
(1874–1953)

Bruce was attached to the English aristocracy; his father was a minister of the church and his wife related to a Baron. He was related to Scott. He became a lieutenant in the British Navy. Bruce served as an officer on the ship Terra Nova; he did not form part of the shore party. He went with Meares to Vladivostok to secure the ponies and dogs.

After returning from the Antarctic in 1913, Bruce was presented with a number of awards, as were a number of returning members of the Terra Nova Expedition. He continued on with the Royal Navy Reserve gaining the rank of Captain.
