  • January 31st: Formal opening of Dalhousie College.
  • February 16th: Halifax Gazette changed to Royal Gazette.
  • Oct 26th: The Sixteenth Assembly of the Nova Scotia Legislature, first convened in 1841, was Dissolved.
  • Oct 30th: Election Writ issued; Returnable Jan 11th, 1844.
  • Amos Seaman builds the 1st steam mill at Minudie (near Cumberland Basin).
  • An act to regulate "for gathering Sea Manure" at Chester, in 1844, Halifax Co.
  • An Act respecting the Measuring of Grindstones in Cumberland County.
  • The war that the British had with the Chinese ended with the annexation of Hong Kong.
